Pinewood Derby

Pat, Seam, Fran, and Liam

Francis' Wolf Den

My WeBeLoS I Den

This year we had a stressful derby. We made some mistakes on 2 of the cars and almost got disqualified. Liam and Pat made cars for the open class. The track broke in the middle of the open class! (The timer quit working!) But, overall, the kids had fun. I survived.. and life marches on!

Isaac is in Cadets, and also had a derby the first weekend in March, his first one. He placed 2nd in his two heats, so he was pleased. Do the kids in BSA (cub scouts, webelos etc) still make their own cars? Because Isaac didn't get to make his, the leaders did, he only got to choose the shape and color. I remember my brother and dad spending hours making his when we were kids. Just wondered if that had changed. Isaac would've loved to have made his own. Oh well. :)

That IS a bummer! Each year, the boys are supposed to do more and more of their cars. When they are really little (6,7) they especially need help with the wood cutting tools. Admittedly, a lot of dads do all of the cutting for their boys. There is no "law" just the spirit of it ;) and the boys are supposed to do as much of it as they can. They design the car on paper, cut or help cut, sand, paint.. it's a big deal. They do, however, have to use only the BSA kit cars, and there are restrictions on weight and size.
Thanks for stopping by!!
