Our Isa Red's turn 3 weeks today! (We got them at 15 days old). They are getting big.. and we are working on their coop and enclosure! They will live in the basement of the playhouse in the back yard. James and the boys are working hard at building the enclosed outdoor area for them.
Today I separated them from the younger chicks and so we now have 2 boxes of chicks in the basement.
Today one of our yellow-ish chicks AND an Isa Red made a mad dash for the table outside of their little box. Apparently their feathers are growing in faster than I suspected! I kept them from this naughty adventure by putting chicken wire on top of the boxes tonight.
Tonight I learned how to "candle" my chicken eggs!! I am VERY excited to see that they are developing. Little chick embryos!
That's it for now... more news soon, I am sure!
We are praying for warmer weather!!!!! It was FRIGID today!

Naughty Adventure! I love that phrase! It made me smile. Some of our greatest lessons are learned from naughty adventures... and I mean that in the nicest way possible! LOL *blush*
oooh! I am jealous! Look at all the helpers you have!!
Ha ha. Yes, some that help.. and some that get in the way ;)
I figured out how the chicks were escaping! They learned how to get on top of their Mason Jar feeders!!! Which also means that they are pooping in their feeders!! Ugh.
Hey, how long do I keep the layers on chick feed?? Should I give them grit? They will be outside when it is warm enough.. but are on pellet food right now.

Kate,
That enclosure looks amazing! I was told to leave them on their chick food until they start laying and then to put them on lay pellets.
Wow the enclosure is bigger than I imagined! Well done, Dad!
