Ground burrowing MEAN looking insect! (RIght near my front door! Eeek!)


I am adding this picture (above) of a DEAD bug that I found in the garage.. same species. HELP!
THese pictures were taken through a canning jar-- that is why they aren't very clear. Does anyone know what this meanny is?
It is ALL black with bluish tint to the wings--

Mud dauber wasp. Not nearly as aggressive as yellowjackets, but still stinging wasps.

They like to build mud tunnels (often on the inside of garages), where they lay an egg and then stuff full of paralyzed spiders for the little larva to eat.

Isn't nature great? :)
